MONSTERS & MASOCHISTS
Five years in the making, Empara Mi’s highly anticipated new album Monsters & Masochists has finally arrived, and it is her most ambitious and cinematic work to date.
Described by Fader as delivering “the soundtrack to the best movie never made” with her debut, Empara Mi has now fully embraced her cinematic instincts. Monsters & Masochists is an album of striking duality, half heavy, indie-rock-driven angst, half sweeping, theatrical ballads, a sonic push and pull between chaos and catharsis. Every track is designed to feel like the emotional climax of its own film, complete with orchestral grandeur.
The rollout of Monsters & Masochists has already seen Empara Mi named a BBC Radio 1 Artist to Watch, with the album’s pre-release singles (I Can’t, Masochist, On Call For You, Closer to Heaven, I Hate Everyone) amassing over 14M TikTok video views (42.7M in total) and 2.8M YouTube views, cementing her status as one of the most visually and sonically compelling independent artists in the UK.
For release week, Empara Mi collaborated with acclaimed director Cal McIntyre (The Last Dinner Party) to create two brand-new music videos for Hurt Like Me and Mercy, bringing the Monsters & Masochists universe to life with high-concept visuals and the artist’s most powerful performances to date.
The campaign also includes a FAULT Magazine
cover feature and international press support, adding to a list of highlights that show Empara Mi’s music is resonating on a global scale.
Despite five singles already released, Empara Mi promises the most explosive moments of Monsters & Masochists are yet to come: several of the album’s most dynamic tracks have been held back exclusively for this release, making the full body of work feel like a brand-new discovery even for her most dedicated fans.
With Empara Mi writing and producing the majority of the record herself, Monsters & Masochists stands as her boldest statement yet, a raw, cinematic exploration of grief, transformation, and ultimate self-empowerment.
‘Hurt like me’ follows a run of acclaimed singles from Monsters & Masochists, including the orchestral alt-pop of I Hate Everyone, the viral Closer to Heaven, and the explosive Masochist. With over 50 million streams, syncs in Ginny & Georgia, Transformers, and The Day of the Jackal, and a BBC Radio 1 ‘Artist to Watch’ title, Empara is also currently composing the music for her first Netflix series — proving her cinematic world isn’t just heard, it’s lived.
